Build baseline safety, handling, and shooting fundamentals with increased comfort and controlled repetition. By the end of this block, students should be able to safely fire 3–4 rounds in 3 seconds at 5 yards. Must complete Mayhem Defense Firearms Safety & Fundamentals prior to live fire course.
Apply the 4 Fundamental Firearm Safety Rules at all times
Understand basic parts and function of a semi-automatic pistol
Build grip, stance, sight picture, and trigger control
Fire 50+ live rounds with increasing speed and control
Demonstrate safe manipulation under stress (verbal commands & timers)
🔹 Drill 1: Confidence Builders (10 rounds)
1 round at a time, from low ready
Emphasis on proper mechanics
Goal: Safe handling and consistent hits at 3 yards
🔹 Drill 2: Controlled Pairs (10 rounds)
2 rounds per string
3-yard line
Focus: follow-through and sight reset
Instructor gives timed cues with verbal “UP!”
🔹 Drill 3: “2-1” Drill (15 rounds)
Fire 2 rounds → pause → fire 1
Focus: composure under artificial delay
Goal: Reinforce trigger discipline between shots
🔹 Drill 4: The Walk Up (10 rounds)
Start at 5 yards → fire 1 round
Step in to 4 yards → fire 1
Continue to 3, 2, 1 yard
Focus: trigger control at different distances
(5-yard stage will become final test range)
🔹 Drill 5: 3 in 3 Challenge Warm-Up (10–15 rounds)
Goal: 3 shots in 3 seconds at 5 yards
Instructor demos
Students work from low ready using timer
Track attempts to document growth
Student hits all shots in center zone (8” circle or similar)
Completes “3 in 3” or closes gap to goal time
Demonstrates safe, consistent handling with no safety violations
